About the artist
Melissa Ghiette is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, design, and functionality, within her own logical—and at times uncanny—world.
Her practice explores modular, reusable, and adaptable installations that effortlessly evolve and/or transform across contexts. Temporary and pop-up formats are central to her work, facilitating direct dialogue with the public and often resulting in a raw, rough, and unpolished aesthetic. Interaction and participation with both the installation and its surroundings are core conditions of her work. Visitors are frequently invited to become active participants rather than passive observers. Ghiette’s work combines conceptual thinking with functionality, using humour and wordplay to make complex ideas more accessible.
The choice of materials is an essential part of the artistic, creative process, with a strong focus on reusability and circularity.
Digital tools and handmade elements coexist and intertwine naturally, giving her body of work an almost childlike, Mad Max–like finish—raw, playful, and slightly anarchic.
Each project functions simultaneously as an object and as an experience. Rather than offering ready-made answers, her work encourages reflection and discussion.
Her installations create moments of exchange and shared experience. Ghiette’s practice deliberately blurs the boundaries between art, design, and everyday life.
Through her work, she seeks to raise awareness around the definition of objects, titles, habits, and actions. Her projects leave visitors with a tangible or lasting memory of their experience.
